As the cooperation tie between  China and ASEAN countries is increasingly promoted in the recent years, the Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has scaled up construction, economic, and free trade activities to become the gateway for China - ASEAN cooperation. Among cooperation areas, Vocational Education and Training is an important area for China - ASEAN cooperation and exchange.

 

2019 China-ASEAN Vocational Education Exhibition and Forum (lasted from September 19th-20th) is among the events of China-ASEAN Expo 2019 jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education and the Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and organized by the Education Department of the Autonomous Region. This big event gathered 20 ministers from ASEAN countries and over 700 foreign guests from over 200 universities. Within the chain of events, more than 100 cooperation agreements were concluded. This year, “Communication, Mutual Learning, Win-win Cooperation, Community for Vocational Education” is the theme of the Exhibition and Forum to radiate positive and pragmatic messages for better cooperation between ASEAN countries and China in VET area.

There are 10 events including the opening ceremony, China-ASEAN Vocational Education Summit Forum, China-ASEAN Educational Officials’ Dialogue, China-ASEAN Negotiation and Promotion Conference for 100 Vocational Schools, Digital Economy and Vocational and Technical Education Forum and China-ASEAN New Business Technology Invitational Contest, China-ASEAN E-Commerce Industry and Education Dialogue, China Border Vocational Education Development Forum, Education Negotiation Conference for Guangxi and Four Vietnamese Border Provinces, China-ASEAN Students’ Talent Show Gala and China-ASEAN Culinary Skills Competition for Vocational College Students which were organized within the event. In the morning of September 19th, educational officials and specialists from China and ASEAN countries joined the Dialogue Meeting to discuss thematic issues on mechanisms implementing the "Nanning Declaration", providing training services for ASEAN countries, exploration and practice of mutual recognition of academic credits between institutions of China and ASEAN countries, and STEM and vocational education. Of which, Dr. Do Nang Khanh - Deputy Director General of Directorate of Vocational Education and Training, on behalf of the Vietnamese side to the event, featured the VET system of Vietnam and possibilities of integrating STEM into vocational education. In the Summit Forum, Dr. Khanh also shared and highlighted policies as well as success stories from implemented projects to support the development of VET in Vietnam.

The event also included the five-party consultation conference on educational work for Guangxi and four Vietnamese border provinces (Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, Lang Son) to promote exchange and discussion on the academic exchanges and cooperation among the five parties. The five parties will make exchanges and discussions on promoting exchange and cooperation in basic education among the counties and districts in the border areas, such as building friendship schools, holding holiday study tours for students, winter (summer) camp, and exchange and training for teachers. In a short bilateral meeting between Director of Guangxi's Department of Education and Dr. Khanh, both sides also discussed practical issues of VET in Vietnam and China and potential areas for cooperation in the near future.

2019 China-ASEAN Vocational Education Exhibition and Forum is really an opportunity to boost the cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in the field of vocational education, open up new possibilities of exchanges and mutual learning as well as strengthen friendship partnership among the member countries.
